Maia and “The Prom Dress”

I put out a model call for someone in a prom dress. I waited and waited for someone to respond, but never heard from anyone. Then I took vacation to go visit my family. My sister told me we were doing some of my niece Maia’s senior pictures in the prom dress. Yee Haw!! I had seen it a little bit in snap shots on Facebook, so I was excited to do this. Plus, it took care of my prom dress needs. I really wanted more of a Trash the Dress, but after paying $400 for a dress, my sis was NOT up for that! I don’t blame her. And it’s just fine. I LOVE what we got. In fact, most of my favorite shots from this session are in that dress.

Prom 2011 {Champaign Central High School}

Ah, the senior prom!! We’ve been preparing for it for months. Finally, the day had arrived. It started like any other Saturday morning. I cow prodded the younger kids into getting the house work done. Amazingly, they did it in record time on this great and glorious morning. Which wasn’t great or glorious, by the way. It was cold and rainy and I saw all visions of beautiful, out door shots in prom dresses slowly fade away from my mind.

We started with hair. What I didn’t realize is that this was the very same day of the University of Illinois’ graduation. The hair and nail salons were on campus. Talk about a parking night mare. Well, we survived and arrived at the appointment on time.

Gorgeous glittery updo! Next was nails. I’ve never been to have my nails done before, so this was a new experience for me, even as an observer.

She went with a French manicure with a thin red line, to match her dress. It looks very classy. After braving the rain, and protecting the do, we were off to the mall for some makeup.

Emily’s request was a natural look except for her eyelashes. She wanted her eyelashes to really stand out. I think that goal was achieved. What do you think?

So, after a few pictures with friends, I got to take some of just my baby. This was really a fantastic day for Emily. However as Mom, it was a little bittersweet. We won’t have any more days like this, until her wedding. I’m looking forward to that day immensely. Now, here are some final images of my own Princess.

This is Brittney. She’s just gorgeous!! I had so much fun getting to know her and her adorable family. One of my favorite things about photographing seniors is scouting out new great locations. I try and find something new to do for every one. I was not disappointed! We found some very cool places to shoot and I had so much fun! Brittney, I hope you love your pictures as much as I do!
